The suicidal woman, who is eight months pregnant with twins, climbed out onto a narrow window ledge on the ninth floor of a building in China.
Passers-by in Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, spotted the distressed woman and called the emergency services.
Firefighters set up an air cushion on the ground while police tried to talk the woman down from the ledge.
After three hours of negotiating, police decided to act as the woman became increasingly distraught and shivered violently in the cold.
One of the officers suddenly lunged from the window and grabbed hold the struggling woman by her dungarees.
He then dragged the expectant mother back inside the building to safety, where she was tied to a stretcher and taken to hospital.
According to reports, the woman tried to kill herself after her boyfriend, and the father of her unborn babies, went back on a promise to marry her and stopped answering her calls.
