Sports: Wenger: Premier League is the best because it has the best players

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that the Premier League's players, stadiums, support and history makes it the best league in the world.

Just five of Fifa's 23-man shortlist for the 2015 Ballon d'Or award - won by Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in January - currently ply their trade in England, while Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal and Manuel Pellegrini were the only Premier League names on the 10-man Coach of the Year shortlist, ultimately claimed by Carlo Ancelotti.

But Wenger, who has managed Arsenal for 19 years having previously coached Nancy-Lorraine, Monaco and Japanese outfit Nagoya Grampus Eight, believes no other division compares to the English top flight.

"I would agree with that," Wenger told BBC Radio 4's 'World at One' programme when asked about the Premier League potentially being the world's best.

"It's the quality of the stadiums, the quality of the support, the passion that is behind every single club and the fact that the best players in the world are concentrated in the Premier League.

"All that together makes it special, and on top of that you are in the country where football has been created and somewhere when you come from abroad you feel that here it has been done and you want to be part of it."
