The Power Play Has Begun

Badero Olusola

In 1979, Chief MKO Abiola of blessed memory singlehandedly financed the Presidential Campaign of Alhaji Sheu Shagari against Chief Obafemi Awolowo because that was what Obasanjo who anointed Shagari wanted. And Abiola as a government contractor and financier complied

Shagari won the election and even won a reelection in 1983 before Buhari overthrown the government. Awolowo was later charged for treason against Shagari's government and MKO was using his concord newspapers to spread different propaganda against the person of Awolowo.

Awolowo was jailed for treason and Abiola was jailed for same offense by Abacha government which Abiola helped to install after a bloodless coup of 1993 Shonekan. The rest they say is history.

Today, Bola Tinubu helped remove Jonathan, a southerner, through his numerous media outlets and insurmountable propagandas to instal Buhari, a northerner.

Jonathan conceded defeat and handed over power to Buhari and his new comrades, Tinubu, Atiku and Saraki. With Obasanjo in the shadow. All power mongers.

13 days after the new government takes charge, the power play among the strange bedfellows is already gargantuan. All the available highest posts in the land are now in the pockets of the Northerners.

A die hard APC supporter would tell you he doesn't care who is Senate President or Speaker, as long as Buhari performs. Bunch of ignoramuses. Buhari will not perform. All of you should go back and read the history of our own democratic government since 1960 and you will know why they all failed - the assemblies of criminals.

Tinubu is a political godfather, no doubt. So was MKO Abiola. So was Chief Obafemi Awolowo. They were all dealt with by the gambaris.

If you are one of those who believes Buhari had no foreknowledge of how Saraki and Dogara became SP and the Speaker respectively, you need to go back to our political history book. Their emergence have given the Northerners the impetus and leverage to cut all those lousy southerners to size, especially the loud mouth Yorubas who think they know more than everyone.

Aboki man may not know too much book, but when it comes to power, they are the masters.

While Tinubu, Oyegun and other over-sabi southerners were expecting Buhari to help persuade Saraki and others not to challenge the party's choices, Buhari has already given the clerk of the house the go ahead to inaugurate the new senate. By the time they would realize the game was over, Saraki was already the President of the senate. Same scenario played out at the House of Reps, but differently. Gbajabiamila, Tinubu's choice, also lost in the full glare views of his godfathers. Lesson learnt?

If Tinubu want to remain relevant, he must remove his gaze from the centre and focus on consolidating his relevance in his region. Hausa man knows how to use power to his advantage. Everyone can't be Goodluck Jonathan.
