Evil father flogs son to death

Thirty nine years old Jide Adebanle has never been on the best of terms with his three sons and it was an open secret in the community he resides. But some few days ago, the commercial motorcycle operator bit more than he could chew: he beat his last child to death. What could have made him do this? What exactly did the boy do wrong?

A commercial motorcycle operator, Jide Adebandele, is now on the run following the death of his third child, whom he allegedly flogged to death. Adebandele, 39, reportedly operates a commercial motorcycle around Church Bus Stop at Ayobo area of Lagos State.

An ex-casual worker with a popular cement factory in Ogun State, Adebandele was said to have been relieved of his duties as a gardener in June 2012. The Iree, Osun State-born man, after the loss of job, reportedly relocated to Ayetoro-Itele community in Ado-Odo/ Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

With the little savings he had, he was said to have bought a second-hand motorcycle with which he sustains his family. His wife, Bimpe, was reported to have been with her parents, in Oyo Town, Oyo State, since December 2012, following seeming irreconcilable differences with her husband.

The couple is, however, blessed with three boys, Adenrele, 17, Tadese, 14, and Ademiti, 9. Since his wife left for the villager last December, the man had retained the three children with him, even when they all reportedly demanded that they be with their mother.

No sooner had his wife relocated to the village with her parents, than another woman started coming to spend the night in the family’s two bedroom apartment. Naturally, the three children did not take kindly to the new woman gradually positioning herself as their step-mother.

It was reported that on some occasions, Adenrele had had to confront the new woman for tampering with his mother’s property in the house. It was reported also that once Adenrele noticed the new woman’s antics, he started to relay all goings-on in their home in Lagos on phone to his mother back in the village. It was also said that on many occasions, Bimpe would call her husband on phone to register her displeasure towards his attitude, but he would not want to hear of it.

Trouble, however, started when Adebandele told his children that the last born of the family, Ademiti, would be moving to live with his new woman friend.

The man had told his three kids that Ademiti would move into the new woman’s apartment said to be around Ikotun area of the state, by end of February. At that stage, Adenrele reportedly flared up and told his father he (Adenrele) would resist any such move. Adebandele naturally felt insulted by his own son.

In a bid to forestall his father’s planned action, Adenrele reportedly borrowed money from one of his mother’s friends in the neighbourhood and departed for Oyo to brief his mother about his father’s latest plans. While still with his mother in Oyo, Adebandele reportedly woke up the other two kids telling Ademiti that he already changed his mind on the day he would be moving into his mistress’s house.

Adebandele told his son that he would move two days from thence. Apparently taking instructions from his elder brother via telephone, Ademiti reportedly fled home to an unknown destination for two days. With the aid of his co-Okada operators, Adebandele found his run-away son two days after he fled home and he was brought back to home.

Ademiti was found on Saturday, February 8, 2013, in the house of one of his eldest brother’s friends at Alaso area of Agbado-Oke/Odo Local Government area of the state. When Adebandele took custody of the runaway boy, he reportedly threatened to kill him, which eventually was the fate of the primary five pupil. Ademiti was reportedly brought to his father around 2:40p.m that fateful Saturday and Adebandele did not waste time in descending on him, locking the door behind his son.

Adebandele reportedly tied the young boy to a chair in their sitting room and gave him the beating of his life. While the beating was on, some neighbours reportedly tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to free the boy from his father, but Adebandele ignored their promptings to allow the boy to go. When it was 5:00p.m that Adebandele used to work with his Okada, he reportedly left the boy still tied to the chair and went out with his motorcycle. Ademiti cried until he lost consciousness and fainted.

Adebandele only came back into the house around 9:00p.m, about four hours after he had left the boy to suffer the hardship. Adebandele and a few of his co-tenants reportedly rushed the unconscious boy to the clinic where he was pronounced dead the following morning. Speaking with reporters, a neighbour identified as Ifeanyi said that several appeals were made to Adebandele to stop beating his son, but he refused.

According to Ifeanyyi, “When the boy continued to cry ceaselessly, some of us tried to stop him (his father) but he would not open the door for us to come in. We saw later Adebandele picked his Okada and went to work and the boy still locked up in the room.

When no one heard the cry of the boy again, we only thought he was asleep”. Adebandele reportedly took the remains of his late son to an unknown destination and has not been seen in the house since then.

Busirat, a hairdresser on the same street, confirmed the no love lost relationship between the father and his children since their mother left the house late last year. “On many occasions I would give the boys food and things to take to school because the man refused to attend to their needs.

There is no doubt that the man was under the influence of the new woman he brought home,” she said. Attempts to get to Bimpe and Adenrele were unsuccessful as they were reported to be on their way to Lagos.
