A 37-year-old son of a Coventry couple has been arrested on suspicion of trying to stab his parents to death in their home.
The couple, aged in their sixties, are in hospital after they were knifed in Stoke Heath, Coventry.
Their son was arrested and has since been detained under the Mental Health Act.
The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Wednesday at 4.25pm and driven away by police, the Coventry Telegraph reported.
Police said the couple were in a stable condition yesterday.
The terraced house was still cordoned off with officers taking turns to patrol the scene yesterday.
A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: 'A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and was later detained under the mental health act.
'At this early stage of enquiries police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
'Those involved are believed to be known to one another.'
The couple were taken to Coventry's University Hospital and neighbours are still in shock about the incident.
'All of a sudden there were lots of police about,' one witness said.
'They didn't have their sirens on or anything they all just slammed on the brakes, brought him out and took him away.
About half a dozen police cars turned up before the son was escorted out of the property by officers.
Another resident said: 'There were police all over the place.
'The couple keep themselves to themselves and are very quiet.
'You just can't believe something like this could happen.'
